RIA Half Marathon Training - The Rain Run

RIA is pleased to announce the launch of its Half Marathon training program for the Rain Run (www.therainrun.com). This is the second year of our training for this boutique half marathon.
Are you a beginning runner? Already a runner? Haven’t run in a long time? Either way, you can finish a half marathon. Bonus, you will be running with your neighbors and friends from our own community at Redmond Ridge. Yes, we are bringing the half-marathon training program yet again to our amazing community.
We are thankful to Sridhar Sharma for volunteering to be the running mentor for our training program. Sridhar and is a seasoned runner and has successfully completed lots of races. He has put together a training plan which caters to the needs of the most runners and can be tailored to meet your specific needs. He will be leading the weekly Sunday long runs to help you prepare for the big day of the Rain Run on Jan 23, 2016. He will be sharing the best practices for training, running gear, injury prevention etc.,

Why Rain Run?
This boutique half marathon is a great way to start off the year. January in the Pacific Northwest is typically wet, but mild, which we think makes for fun running weather. It's a relatively flat race track, perfect for most folks. We believe it's better to be running and wet, than sitting and dry.
Rain Run has a limit of 700 runners, so you need to register ASAP. If you miss this one, there are other races that you can choose.
Do I have a fund raising goal?
RIA Half Marathon Training program provides a wonderful opportunity to run for a cause while you accomplish your health and fitness goals. With this 3+ months training program, you have a nominal goal of raising $100 for Asha for Education, Seattle Chapter. Asha is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to bringing about socio-economic change in India primarily through education. Sridhar is volunteering his time to trains us and is raising funds for Asha's projects. Unlike other such training programs which have a much higher fund raising goals, we have consciously decided to keep a nominal goal so that you don't feel pressured and enjoy running.
Which charity will I be supporting?
This year we are planning to raise funds for destitute girls home being run by Adruta.
Adruta is a home for destitute unclaimed and destitute girl children in Orissa. Established in 1998, Adruta children™ home has completed 15 successful years and currently supports more than 400 children in the age-group of 1-15 yrs. Adruta children homes are spread in 9 centres across Orissa - Bhubaneswar, Rayagada, Bolangir, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Baripada and Puri. The girls are provided more than basic needs of food, shelter and clothing. The children live in the home and are sent to local schools for education. Special emphasis is given to extra-curricular activities such as dance, music, meditation, painting, etc. Several of them are very accomplished in Odissi dance form and perform regularly in national-level dance competitions. The home has received numerous awards, including the National-level Excellency Award for Social Action in 2006 and memento from the Women & Child welfare Department, Government of Orissa state in recognition of their efforts. You can learn more about Adruta Home at http://www.ashanet.org/projects/project-view.php?p=746
Sridhar Sharma, one of our running mentor, is the steward for this charity and personally visits them.
How can I keep in touch with other runners?
We have a dedicated Facebook group to facilitate virtual community. This Facebook group will be used for posting information about the weekly run route, meeting point, tips, best practices etc., We also have a whatsapp group that we use for more instant communication between the runners.
